MVRDV: The Living Archive of a Studio

Project developed for "MVRDVHNI: The Living Archive of a Studio" exhibition.

From November 6, 2021 to September 4, 2022, Het Nieuwe Instituut (HNI) displays the MVRDV archive as a living entity in office spaces, rather than in museum galleries. As a working environment, the office is the place where ideas and projects move fluidly back and forth between present, past, and future.

In addition to the exhibition, Het Nieuwe Instituut invited Alice Bucknell, Carl Rethmann, Eline Wieland, Giacomo Nanni and Francesca Morini, MVRDV NEXT, and Namelok, to design tools to search, visualise, and utilise the immense digital archive. It could take months to search for a specific item in the kilometre-long physical archive, but this can be done in seconds in a digital archive. The exhibition is curated by Het Nieuwe Instituut (Ludo Groen, Marten Kuijpers, and Suzanne Mulder), and designed by MVRDV and Geoff Han.
